Perfectionism – it will drag you down and keep you stuck

Yikes!  I’ve been hearing an awful lot lately about young people being unable to move forward in their lives.  I’ve heard some therapy-savvy young clients refer to perfectionism as the reason.  It seems epidemic – but that might just be from where I sit.  Basically, it’s the feeling of not being able to take action or make a decision for fear it will be wrong, not work out, not be judged “perfect” or good enough by “them.”  “Them” may include parents, teachers, peers, the culture at large or all of the above – a wise friend called this conglomeration of voices of judgment in our heads the “itty, bitty, shitty committee.”  Here’s a link to some observations about this problem by Carl Jung –
