Pondering mortality

I remember the first time I came across the suggestion to meditate on my own death.  It was shocking.  I read it in the great Jesuit spiritual teacher, Anthony de Mello’s book of meditations, Wellsprings.  I took a deep breath and allowed myself to go into that meditation – and found it strangely soothing.  Being subject to anxiety from time to time, I remember that at it’s root, anxiety has something to do with the survival instinct.  To come to terms with death can make anxiety disappear.  Here’s an article with more……
